Continuing Medical Education

Continuing Medical Education

The fields of medicine and science never stop moving forward—and neither should physicians.

Physicians spend four years in medical school and three to five years in residency training. For the rest of your career, you rely on CME as one of the support systems that helps you drive improvements in practice and optimize the care, health, and wellness of patients. Whether you work in clinical care, research, healthcare administration, executive leadership, or other areas of medicine, CME is designed to be relevant to your needs, practice-based, and effective.

Participation in accredited CME helps you meet requirements for maintenance of licensure, maintenance of certification, credentialing, membership in professional societies, and other professional privileges.  The NMA is dedicated to meeting your educational needs.

Please contact our CME Director Meghan Johnson at with any questions you may have.

Please note: If you have received a packet in the mail from InforMed regarding "2020 Nebraska Medical Licensure Program CME Renewal", this is not from the NMA or DHHS. It is solicitation and the education provided by the NMA & DHHS is free.

All physicians that prescribe controlled substances are required to have 3.0 of opioid prescribing CME completed by the October 1, 2020 licensure renewal date.  0.5 hours of this must be on the PDMP.  This is due to LB731 (full bill located here):

On the renewal form, physicians will be asked if they prescribe controlled substances and to attest that the CME requirements have been completed.  Please note the 3.0 hours required are included in the 50.0 total CME needed for licensure renewal.

Below are links to the videos and CME assessments to fulfill this requirement:

  1. Pain Management Guidance CME Assessment (1.0 hours):
  2. Acute Pain CME Assessment (0.5 CME hours available):
  3. Difficult Conversations CME Assessment (0.5 hours):
  4. Tapering Opioids/Benzodiazepines CME Assessment (0.5 hours):
