Leadership opportunities at the NMA present themselves in many forms—from serving on the Board of Directors or the Commission of Legislative and Governmental Affairs, to testifying in the Legislature on
behalf of a bill the NMA is working. 2021 presented members with a new type of leadership opportunity with the debut of the NMA Inspire Medicine Speaker Series. Held during the 2021 NMA Annual Membership Meeting, these brave physicians each had five minutes to speak and twenty slides to support their topic, with the slides automatically advancing every fifteen seconds. This event was designed to energize, engage, and inspire fellow members, while cultivating new relationships and connectivity within our physician community.
Speakers chose topics from the categories of Triumphs or Perceived Failures, Personal Challenges and Lessons Learned, Heroes Among Us, Mentors and Influencers, Hobbies or Obsessions, and Unforgettable Moments. This provided an opportunity for physicians to present on something other than their usual medical-based topics, and make it more intimate, personalized, and touching.
Because of its success, the NMA plans to present the speaker series again in 2022, and physician members have already shown interest in becoming a speaker. Keep your eye out for the 2022 Call for Speakers email hitting your inbox in January.
