Nebraska joins 37 other states with passage of Good Samaritan drug overdose immunity law

September 7, 2017

Earlier this year, the Legislature passed LB 487, which creates a Good Samaritan drug overdose immunity law for the state of Nebraska. The bill, effective September 2017, works like this:

  • You or a friend is experiencing a drug overdose
  • You call 911 for medical attention for yourself or your friend(s)
  • Stay on the scene and cooperate with police and medical authorities
  • You, the person you are helping and anyone else assisting are immune from the drug possession and paraphernalia charges
