Founded in 1925, the NMA Alliance, with 600 members across the state, has a history of Building Healthy Communities across Nebraska as its tagline indicates. Comprised of physicians' spouses and physicians themselves, this organization has wholly educational and charitable purposes which allow its members opportunities to directly influence the health of their individual communities and those across the state. It also supports the activities and purposes of the American Medical Association Alliance on a national level.

With 10 distinct local alliances, including the House Officers Association Alliance in Omaha and the Medical Student Spouse group at UNMC School of Medicine, most members can enjoy the camaraderie of each other's company in activities and at meetings. For members in more remote areas of Greater Nebraska, there is a Members-At-Large network that is maintained at the state level.

Attentive to legislative issues, the NMA Alliance stays informed about potential legislative efforts which could impact the practice of medicine in Nebraska and which might affect the quality of patient care or patient access to medical care in Nebraska.
